Dr Robert Harvey

MBBS (hons), FRACP (Cardiology)

Dr Rob Harvey is an Interventional Cardiologist specialising in complex percutaneous intervention with an interest in left main, bifurcation and chronic total occlusion coronary treatment, returning from Canada to join the Access Cardiology team in Western Australia.

Originating from Queensland, he completed medical school receiving gold medals for highest academic achievement in class and dux of graduating year. He then went onto Physician and Cardiology speciality training through the Royal Australian College of Physicians.

After completing his general cardiology training, he partook in an interventional cardiology fellowship at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane and then moved to British Columbia, Canada, to complete in a two-year complex coronary intervention fellowship at the Royal Jubilee Hospital on Vancouver Island. During this time, he was integral part of facilitating local and international research trials at the Victoria Heart Institute Foundation.

His passion for performing high level quality coronary stenting is driven by both the importance of long-term revascularisation durability as well as improvement of patient’s symptoms – getting people back to enjoying their lives.

As well as the treatment for established coronary disease he has a passion for primary prevention, from the basics of education on healthy lifestyle, to the up-to-date, cutting-edge medical preventative management strategies. His clinical capabilities also include medical management of arrhythmias, hypertension, lipid disorders, valvular heart disease, cardiomyopathies and heart failure. By December of this year (2023) he will also have his accreditation for CT Coronary Angiography reporting.

He has a strong belief in an individualised, patient-based approach with an emphasis on the importance of good communication both from doctor to patient as well as doctor to doctor in continued holistic care.

Dr Harvey also has an interest in continued education. He was an associate lecturer at the University of Queensland and clinical teacher for examination candidate physician registrars. He plans to be involved in clinical teaching for medical students and training doctors in Perth as well as presenting the latest data arising in general and interventional cardiology at information events and meetings.

Dr Harvey is a tri-athlete and an avid cyclist in all forms. He believes in the importance of living a happy life, with good relationships and good health.
