About Us

Who We Are

Access Cardiology provides specialist cardiology consultations, advanced cardiac diagnostics and bulk-billed cardiac testing across 10 locations throughout Western Australia.

Our team of experienced cardiologists are recognised specialists in their field, with expertise spanning a wide range of cardiovascular conditions and advanced cardiac procedures.

Working alongside skilled sonographers and dedicated medical support staff, we provide comprehensive cardiac assessment, clear communication and patient-centred care, supporting patients and their doctors with timely access to specialist heart care.

Our Story

Access Cardiology was founded in 2013 by cardiologists A/Prof Michael Nguyen and Dr Justin Ng in response to a growing need for timely, affordable and patient-centred cardiac services.

The two doctors first met while working at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital in Perth, where Dr Ng was completing his registrar training. Through their clinical experience, they recognised that many patients faced unnecessary barriers to specialist cardiac care, including long waiting times, limited access to diagnostics and the financial burden of testing.

Together, they envisioned a cardiology practice built on three core principles:

  • Accessibility — convenient locations close to patients’ communities
  • Affordability — bulk-billed cardiac testing to remove financial barriers
  • Patient experience — compassionate, welcoming care from the first point of contact

In October 2013, they opened the first Access Cardiology clinic in Nedlands. What began as a single practice has since grown into a network of ten locations across Perth and Albany, bringing high-quality cardiology services closer to the communities that need them.

Our Approach to Cardiac Care

Today, our specialist cardiologists, sonographers and dedicated medical support staff work together to provide coordinated, patient-centred cardiac care.

Our cardiologists and collaborating specialists bring expertise across a broad range of cardiovascular conditions and procedures, including acute cardiology, coronary artery disease, angiography and angioplasty, structural heart disease, arrhythmia management, heart failure and advanced cardiac imaging.

Our team also performs complex coronary and structural interventions such as transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), atrial septal defect and patent foramen ovale closure, carotid stenting, and the management of conditions such as Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS).

Accessible Cardiac Testing

Our team combines state-of-the-art diagnostic technology, rapid reporting and bulk-billed cardiac testing to help reduce delays and improve access to specialist care.

From early risk assessment and prevention through to advanced cardiac investigations, we support patients and referring GPs at every stage of their heart health journey.

Many of our cardiologists are also actively involved in research, education and leadership roles within Western Australia’s public hospital system, helping advance cardiovascular care across the state.

Collaborative Specialist Care

In addition to cardiology, patients can also access related specialist services through our colleagues at Access Vascular and Access Drs.

Access Vascular provides vascular and endovascular surgical care, supporting the management of conditions affecting the arteries and circulation.

Access Drs includes a range of medical specialists such as endocrinologists, rheumatologists, specialist physicians and nephrologists who provide complementary expertise for patients with complex or overlapping medical conditions.

By working collaboratively across these specialties, we help ensure patients receive coordinated, comprehensive care when it is needed.

Supporting Referring Doctors

Access Cardiology works closely with general practitioners, referring specialists and allied health professionals to support coordinated, high-quality patient care.

Our team is committed to providing timely appointments, clear communication and prompt reporting, ensuring referring doctors remain closely involved in their patients’ care. We prioritise comprehensive clinical correspondence and efficient reporting following consultations and diagnostic testing.

Through accessible testing, specialist consultations and collaborative care pathways, we aim to make the referral process as seamless and efficient as possible for both patients and their referring doctors.
